Until a few years ago, Prince Edward Islanders with a steady income could expect to have a place to live within their means. In recent years, though, finding a suitable home is more like playing the lottery.

One man SaltWire spoke to has had to relocate three times, unable to find a suitable home for himself, his girlfriend and his dog. “As much as the two-bedroom apartments are great, they’re going to a lot of seniors or retirees,” Arsenault told SaltWire. “And that’s fine, those people need houses. … But if you’re young and single, you don’t need or want a two-bedroom unit, you want a smaller, affordable unit.”Where those units are located, and what amenities are nearby, are also considerations, Stratford Mayor Steve Odgen said as part of this series.
