Police said one of the items was found to be a 'viable explosive device' and there is an increased police presence in the area

Emergency services descended on Watling Street Road in the Fulwood area of Preston yesterday afternoon following reports that the devices had been found close to an address. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal also attended the scene and a total of 69 properties were evacuated after a cordon was put in place.

In a statement issued this afternoon , Preston Police they have a dedicated investigation team making enquiries and patrols have been stepped up in the area. The force said it is being treated as an 'isolated incident' and no arrests have been made. "The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were called, a cordon established, and 69 properties were evacuated. A successful controlled explosion of one of the devices was carried out by the EOD at the scene, with the other device removed to a second location and a further controlled explosion taking place there.
