Melbourne and Sydney have both fallen in the global rankings of liveable cities amid Australia's housing crisis but both places have managed to maintain top 10 placements.

Vienna in Austria was crowned the most liveable city for the third consecutive year, while Copenhagen in Denmark placed second, followed by Zurich in Switzerland. The infrastructure scores for Melbourne and Sydney were this year determined to be 96.4, down from the perfect 100 score listed in 2023. "We have downgraded overall infrastructure scores for Australia, owing to an ongoing housing crisis that has led to an all-time low availability of rental properties in many of the cities," the Economist Intelligence Unit said.In addition to being equal on infrastructure, Melbourne and Sydney both had the same scores for stability , healthcare and education .
