A family of four, including children aged two and five, have been hospitalised after their house exploded inThe two adults remain at St Helier's General Hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening or life-changing injuries.Residents close to the incident have told ITV News that their properties shook with the force of the explosion.
Emergency services had declared a major incident but this has now been stood down as they move to the recovery phase.Police were called to an unexplained explosion at a property in Le Mont Pinel in St Saviour just before 11pm on Wednesday night . "When I came out, I could just hear someone saying, 'Call an ambulance and the fire brigade' so I phoned them. Then I looked up and saw all the wall was blown out.Emergency services and Jersey's utility companies were sent to the scene.Another neighbour, Karen Basile, adds: "I was sitting on my bed and there was an enormous bang which shook the whole house, it woke everybody up.
"At one point I heard the person in charge say, 'I want everybody out alive' so it was obviously a very dangerous situation."The surrounding area is closed to the public as the States of Jersey Police remain on the scene but school traffic is not expected to be affected - Mont Millais is open.Engineers will attend the home that was badly damaged and three neighbouring properties to assess their structural integrity before investigations can begin.
