NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons says we need to “learn all lessons available” out of this 'extraordinary' bushfire season amid calls for a royal commission.

NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons says we need to “learn all lessons available” out of this "extraordinary" bushfire season amid calls for a royal commission. Mr Fitzsimmons told Sky News the country needs to "prepare themselves" for the next fire season which is only “a matter of months away”.

“We owe it to everybody, to those affected, those who have lost property, livelihoods and most importantly those who have lost loved ones to make sure we reflect on this season,” he said. Prime Minister Scott Morrison has flagged the prospect of a royal commission, which could include looking at the lack of hazard reduction burns and the government’s climate change policy.

fuel reduction 🤔

Get him to read this.

You do know that there is a good chance that this season may not end?

Yes, we should be prepared. Step 1: Sack Scott Morrison

look at park officials wilful neglect to decrease fire load over years and they must be held to account

I suspect I’ll get howled down again but Shane has been rfs boss for 12 years, surely he has to explain how the fuel loads in some areas has been allowed to grow uncontrollably, not denying he has a tough job to do but surely there’s questions to answer.

When the RC inevitable concludes.... ClimateChange made these fires 4-5 times bigger and that more Global Warming will make them even bigger in the future. Will ScottyfromMarketing commit to phasing out coal ASAP and tell the rest of the world to do the same? auspol

I agree, we need to reduce fuel. Burning seems to be a no go, so bring in the buldozers. Clear large fire breaks (100m +) especially around homes. NASA say's that if the world goes to zero emmissions tomorrow warming will continue for several more decades if not centuries.

Ah, that drip torch there.

More money wasted on a circle jerk... Nothing learned from black Saturday fires.
