Power outages are being reported across Western Australia, including large swathes of Perth, Kalgoorlie and Geraldton.

About 100,000 homes and businesses have lost power across Perth, Kalgoorlie and Geraldton tonight from what electricity provider Western Power is describing as a"load shedding" event.Western Power says the event was triggered by a loss of generation from a generator based in Kwinana, which"triggered safety measures within the network to activate and match available load to the demand of our customers".

"There is no physical damage to the network which means that restoration will be quick once we have worked with AEMO to formulate a dispatch plan for the generation to restore frequency balance through the grid," a statement from Western Power said.Western Power's emergency outage alerts website also went down. There are reports parts of the cities of Geraldton and Kalgoorlie have also lost power.
