The President denounced the corruption in the Light Rail Transit contract and the UP lease contract, saying it was much bigger than the irregularities involving the customs bureau and other agencies.
“Would you believe it? At P70 per hectare ‘yung lupa diyan sa UP. Talagang if you compute, all the corruptions done by those, ‘yung mga Customs, it pales in comparison sa nakaw nito ,” he said. “They come up with a program, well-publicized, that they have this foundation sending people to states, the United States, and spending… Pero wala ‘yan pang — pangpa-ano lang ‘yan, pangpa-ano — pang-salonpas lang ‘yan sa sakit,” he said.
Ayala Land has reportedly clarified that UP will receive P10.23 billion in lease payments during the 25-year contract. Under the deal, the state university will reportedly get P4.23 billion in lease payments equivalent to P171 per square meter, and P6 billion in investments for 16 commercial buildings in development.
