The National Chief Imam of Ghana Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu has advised his fellow Muslims to say their various prayers at home as he suspends all public Islamic religious activities and gathering.

This decision by the Chief Imam is to complement the government’s measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country. According to the Chief Imam, the suspension comes after President Akufo-Addo puts bans on all social gatherings including funerals, festivals, all religious activities, conferences and all other events that call for a mass gathering of people.The Methodist Church of Ghana, the Pentecost Church of Ghana and the Ghana Baptist Convention have all halted church activities in regards to the ban announced by the president.

The Chief Imam in a statement noted that the restriction of public gathering is in accordance with protocols enshrined in the Quran to preserve and ensure healthy lives.
