Nursing homes and long-term care homes are a necessity in modern society. The challenge now is not just get through the pandemic without much more carnage, but to deal with these issues permanently

Yet, business continued more-or-less as usual, with homes restricting visitors and installing hand sanitizers, and isolating people only after they fell ill.Essential safety measures like routine testing, banning work at multiple sites, and use of personal protective equipment have still have not been fully implemented

Where routine testing has been done, the results are frightening; at CHLSD Ste-Dorothée, for example, 115 of the 174 residents have tested positive. We can self-righteously denounce workers who abandoned their charges at places like Résidence Herron but who wants to put their life on the line for fifteen bucks an hour, no benefits – and no PPE?

There have been many reports. People don't want to spend the money. The govt didn't even give them masks to wear until last Saturday. Hope it will change, but after 15 years inside one, I doubt it. Family and staff work really hard to make up for the shortfall. Let family back in

I suspect there's more to tell. Why didn't the province step in sooner? A disgrace. Shameful. Why did it take a pandemic to shine a light on situation? Extreme negligence. Horrific. What a way for a loved one to go. Frightening. Deeply sad. Those poor people. In 2020 shocking.

It is tragedy that this is not only one long term care facility like this. Many are not inspected. How many more deaths are to happen? There is no transparency to family members either... this is happening in Canada .. 😔

I worry everyday and say a prayer every night for my dear friend and neighbour for over 30 years whose family warehoused her in a retirement home in Burlington. She is 95 with severe mobility issues and confined to a wheel chair that she uses her feet to move. Poor dear soul!

Well it's been a horror show for a long time. What took you so long to notice? Just hooking for headlines now with this questionable pandemic?

If our governments had not abandoned the social contract seniors care would not be in this position. The reality is that they have not been meeting even their most basic responsibilities to Canadians
