The Construction Industry Federation has warned that Covid-19 safety measures could add 5-10% to the cost of a house

Responding to a question from Fianna Fáil TD John McGuinness at the Covid-19 committee, CIF Director General Tom Parlon said that he had spoken to a substantial house builder this morning, who had forecast that implementing the measures, including social distancing, could add €10,000-15,000 to the cost of a house.

Mr Parlon said the industry would be well placed to contribute to economic recovery as it enables other sectors to operate, adding that they could restart work without significant state support. However, he indicated that there had been no "big bang" return to work yesterday, as builders were being sensible and practical.HSA assign inspectors to check workplace Covid-19 measures

He told the Committee that over 130,000 out of 147,000 construction employees had completed the CIF Standard Operating Procedure Covid-19 induction training - including office based staff.

The CIF were claiming the cost of children’s hospital would increase by 40%, the gift that keeps on giving, wham “BAM” thank you mam

Forget it!! People won’t buy houses for years even if you drop the prices by 30%. If cost is rising up then better cut the margin but the houses r not going to sell like before

Any excuse to yet again take the piss and rob the Irish use to that in this country 🙄🙄 bad enuf we’re gonna struggle for years after everything that’s happened we don’t need this crap

Not to worry the economic recession that we are entering should probably knock 30% off. It almost feels as if this article is scripted to encourage people to buy now. History has taught us nothing

Any excuse ,!

What you really mean is that costs of building housing will increase, the price achievable on market for a house will not change

Lol

Best of luck increasing house prices into the teeth of a recession. Basic economics

Pirates...

🤣chancers

...as we head into a recession and house prices plummet. Yeah, good luck CIF

Any excuse to fleece the public and line their already full pockets

FG’s housing plan coming together I see.

Don't let the opportunity of a good pandemic get away..has to be worth at least 20% more profit..any chance of doubling the cost of a new children's hospital too.

Scammers

Wow what a load of 💩 I'd love to see how they have come up with 5-10% Average price is €260,000 so they think it'll cost an extra €13 to €26k..... Smells like another tax break for developers coming 🤨

Can't wait to see how much they increase the price of public transport. Just look at Dublin, the Luas (tram) was already overpriced and always crowded.

But want to cut the cost of labour because of covid-19!?🤔 so cut labour cost but raise price! More profit is all this is about!

I didn't see that coming, did you?
