Sky News host Chris Kenny says it is one thing for the media to acknowledge the anger of protesters over systemic racism but “it is quite another thing to offer any comfort or excuse for those embracing violence and looting in response”.

Mr Kenny said the “horrific” killing of unarmed African-American man George Floyd while in police custody has been the biggest story around the world this week. As a result of My Floyd’s death widespread protests, looting, violence, destruction of property and businesses, arrests and even further deaths have been observed.

“Yet rather than stand up for law and order, demand law and order, there are some in the media who seem to be suggesting it might be best if journalists avoided reporting the criminal reality”. While in Australia, Mr Kenny said an “outlandish and inflammatory” statement regarding US President Trump’s tweet on the issue was allowed to go unchallenged on the national broadcaster. “But Trump Derangement Syndrome allows everything to be about Trump and anything to be said about his intentions”.
