The crackdown on leaks of unclassified information comes after the unauthorized release of details on the crash of a Cyclone helicopter and abuse in Ontario long-term care homes

The Canadian Forces is going to crack down on leaks of unclassified information in the wake of the unauthorized release of details about the crash of a Cyclone helicopter and problems in Ontario long-term care homes.

The Canadian Forces and senior Department of National Defence leadership are particularly upset by leaks over the last month that embarrassed either the Liberal government or military leaders. In one case, Canadian Forces personnel informed the CBC that the crash of a Cyclone helicopter off the coast of Greece was witnessed by the crew of a Canadian warship, undercutting suggestions by defence minister Harjit Sajjan and Chief of the Defence Staff Gen.

The DND confirmed to this newspaper the new directive on unclassified information is being written but it had no details on when it would be ready to be issued to military personnel and department employees. A similar situation happened in 2011 when CTV reported that Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Walt Natynczyk spent more than $1 million over a three-year period using government VIP jets to travel to sporting events and fundraising dinners, as well as for a trip to join his family on a Caribbean cruise vacation. Military leaders claimed the information had been leaked and called in the NIS to investigate how then CTV journalist Robert Fife had acquired the data.

They only allow leaks where certain groups are discredited. They decide faith

Geese guys how do you pull this off ? You cant buy what you already own

Don’t do or says embarrassing things and you won’t have to worry about embarrassing leaks.

Open governance is something that each Gov keeps on promising but it appears too difficult to happen when there are other interests as reducing the number of workers, outsourcing jobs, etc.

These leaks are not embarrassing the Military but they are embarrassing the Minister as hell has again caught not telling the truth, there is a need to hold the false hood spreader not the truth teller to account.

Of mice and men....

“...leaks of UNCLASSIFIED information...” The liberals are only concerned about the embarrassment it causes them and nothing else.

Remember folks - to hell with the troops; it’s all about optics with liberals at the helm. Was exactly the same during the Chretien years. Gag orders all around! “Moral courage” are just words to this government. Hate to see them actually attempt to do the right thing....

All righty. 2020 idea defunddod Get rid of the army. Problem solved. Especially if Justin is securing that UN seat. We will be untouchable. CanadianPM

So members of the Canadian Armed Forces are honest and speak the truth while the Liberal government is a bunch of secretive liars ?

If it's unclassified, it's not a leak. That information belongs to the public. This is still a democracy, even if the current government disagrees.

Good thing 'Stolen Valor' got leaked....

This perfectly explains Canadian politics these days
