pandemic enters its fifth month, an increasing number of renters from across the country are facing a grim reality -- possible eviction.

Shanyka Phillips, a mother of two in New Orleans, has been unemployed for more than three months after the clothing store she worked in closed due to the pandemic. She fears eviction.Phillips lives in an apartment that she describes as leaky, and has been unemployed since the clothing store she worked at shut down three months ago.

New Orleans is just one of an increasing number of places where protections for tenants are starting to phase out, even as coronavirus cases rise in some areas of the country. The 120-day moratorium on evictions in federally assisted housing properties mandated by the CARES Act is also set to expire on July 25th. According to the Urban Institute, that moratorium covers roughly 12.3 million out of the 43.8 million rental units in the U.S. -- one in four units.

"Folks here know what's coming down the pike. We, unfortunately, have had more than our share of experience dealing with disasters and governmental failures," Hill told ABC News. Lawyer Winfield, 53, says the rising number of eviction cases in Louisiana should be treated as a crisis because of their relation to the coronavirus pandemic. He is trying to keep his home.

I warned of this when the entire thing started. When many people with families are evicted then maybe someone will notice?

See LastWeekTonight for information on this. And it’s not just in New Orleans - it’s nationwide.

Its funny how Louisiana was a hot spot 3 months ago and its just stopped getting coverage!!! THE dems!! They pay the media to say what they want to push onto you!

I’m sure the property owners are going to love having all those empty apertments and houses. No future income for them.

Its all because of the Democrats!! They wanted this to all go to hell Fear of Donald Trump who is pulling the rug out from under them!!! DemocratsAreDestroyingAmerica Trump2020VictoryNowMoreThanEver

Thank President Trump for courageously saying no, re-establishing a new order!

Yep and it's going to happen here in Australia too, around October i'm told...

This can be something that creates a terrible crisis that places families with children on the streets if not handled well. The long-term plan for not working is not working.

Why isn't it being reported on news that death rates & hospitalization 's & length of stays going down? Some say beginning herd immunity. Some say virus mutated to weaker form. ?

The only group who could possibly think things are gonna be better by Nov, are the same morons who ignored the virus in the 1st place, calling others panic merchants.

Evictions: Will landlords fully recover unpaid rents? Will landlords successfully find new tenants who have not been evicted or who are leaving previous landlords 'owing'. Looks like lose, lose situation. Lack compassion. Landlords have had it their way for so long.

Our models of urban vs rural transmittal of covid 19 show that population density is factor but not as significant as CONNECTIVITY within these environments. Networks transmit virus more socially travelled paths this is what govt should be looking at

The big problem that Del Blasio got under his burn , riot policy is that he is all ready in a 10 million dollar hole he has got they money, and BLM threatening him or they burn, riot and loot

If Trump really wanted to help Americans, He would issue an Executive Order on a Rent Moratorium coronavirus RentRelief

Yeah that’s what happens when you just let power hungry politicians shut the economy down instead of leaving it open but mandating safer ways to do business. More hand washing stations, social distancing, free sanitizer, occupancy limits, and even the least effective...masks.

Biden would make this economy recovery FAR, FAR WORSE. YOU think he could help these folks? He is in early stage Dementia. If you want economic collapse and anarchy, then vote for Dementia Joe.

No the problem here is that low income housing is a hand up and not a hand out. When you take your stimulus check and decide a 56” flat screen tv is more important that paying rent because there is a moratorium, that’s a problem. A moratorium doesn’t negate responsibility.
