Victoria has recorded another 74 coronavirus cases overnight as Premier Daniel Andrews announces the more than 3,000 public housing tenants placed under hard lockdown will not have to pay rent for two weeks.Residents who cannot go to work because of the lockdown will receive a $1,500 hardship payment and those who are unemployed will receive $750
The total number of cases in public housing blocks is now 27, but Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton expects that number will growwhich were placed under immediate lockdown on Saturday afternoon"Those who are employed and because of the hard lockdown cannot go to work, they will receive a $1,500 hardship payment," Mr Andrews said.
Mr Andrews said public health teams would begin going door-to-door to test every person, and he was confident all residents would be willing to comply. He said work had been going on throughout the night to organise food, medical support, drug and alcohol support, family violence support and other essential services.
Health authorities said the drastic move was necessary because of the nature of the buildings, where many people live in close quarters and use shared facilities including lifts and laundries.

Obviously they didn’t care their own lives and health? If I get locked down because of these muppets try and stop me!
Shame we are even in this place. Hotel quarantine debacle. Every1 now punished for his huge oversight on the most risky COVID part of society. Absolute disgrace.
Every day is a new disaster in Victoria.
Those under house arrest (that’s what it is!) deserve WAY more then rent waived.
The protests of blacklivesmatteraustralia and Antifa were more important for Comrade Andrews than the health of the Australian people. He also self-scored with the 'quarantine love hotels'. What's next in his 'pigeon' production of shit? auspol
DanielAndrewsMP today likened the response to the lockdown imposed at aged care facilities. I didn't know VictoriaPolice were sent in to those facilities instead of healthcare workers VicGovDHHS
Guests of Her Majesty, but their incarceration was not ordered by a court. If these buildings are unsuitable ‘settings’ during a pandemic, they must come down and sufficient new public housing built to accommodate their tenants. melbournelockdown
Certainly woudnt expect Australian's who had committed no crime to be charged to be detained
The biggest problem for Dan Andrews and his team is they have not learnt from the early mistakes made by NSW. Gladys was quickly forgiven because we were still learning about the virus, Dan does not have that excuse.
have rent waived? lol Have you let the media in, so we can watch the poor people tortured? or have you restricted them? Will you give a daily report on domestic occurrences, injuries, deaths and arrests? I hope the police will be a little more transparent with the public.
The state is out of control.
The numbers are fairly steady.
Don't what all the whohaa is about, you live in state house state gets to dictate what happens to you. No one stopping them moving up in the world and moving out of those shit holes.
Stands to reason not to charge rent. Prisoners aren’t expected to pay rent.
Question for the ABC. I agree both premiers are responsible for each debacle, but during the Ruby Princess debacle, most of the story photos were oh the cruise ship and not of GladysB . Why are you only showing pictures of DanielAndrewsMP here? Is this not a form of media bias?
They probably never pay their rent anyway.

$117k raised after Melbourne apartment blocks sent into immediate lockdownNine public housing towers across two Melbourne suburbs have been placed under immediate lockdown, amid fears of a coronavirus outbreak. 9News Whole thing is ridiculous. It is absolutely POINTLESS trying to lock down a rapidly increasing number of individual suburbs, each having large numbers of routes of ingress and egress. There is NO VACCINE and 99.99% NON-IMMUNITY, so we can NOT suppress this virus indefinitely.
