The property portal and caterer are the latest to shun payouts for staff brought back from furlough.

Earlier this month, fashion retailer Primark promised to sacrifice a £30m payout after saying the bonus was unnecessary under"current circumstances".

Earlier in July, Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the bonus scheme as part a package of measures designed to prevent this outcome. However, if every furloughed worker returned to their jobs, it could cost the public purse more than £9bn in bonus payments - something that has fuelled scrutiny of the policy., raising doubts over whether the policy offered value for money.

Mr Sunak rejected the criticisms, saying he believed the bonus would"serve as a significant incentive" to preserve jobs amid the pandemic.

Well done ! You show some initiative in the face of a lame and lazy 'money for nothing' schemes ...

It just means people sadly will loose their jobs but less tax rises for the rest 🤔🤦🏼‍♂️

Let’s see how many cuts these companies make then before January, John Lewis probably turned it down cos they were shutting down 8 stores laying off 1300 staff

I feel like this policy was designed to fail.

It's up to companies to claim or not. Do the companies who say they won't claim want a gold star?

Good lads. Yes I'm being non PC, so what!!!!!!

Corp PR teams hard at work here. Value in publicly announcing they'll decline the payment worth more than the payment itself.

Why were rightmove staff furloughed? Surely they could work from home?

Massive well done 2 all companies not grabbing 'free' cash if not needed cause it not really 'free' - there is a cost. Some even repaying what they needed in lockdown now they trading again. They sld b awarded some type of certificate so customers know they did this.

It a stupid and money wasting policy and I am glad some company's are doing the right thing and not taking the money

The bonus scheme appears to be a panicky knee jerk policy aimed at bribing businesses into keeping unproductive labour. For a grand most businesses won't. The cash will hardly be out of HMRCs coughers before it's sitting comfortably in shareholders bank accounts.

Wait till the anticipated jobs losses hits. When people witness the fawning over BAME and BLM supremacists members and bringing in positive discrimination with lesser experience or qualifications they will turn on them like rabid bulldogs. Watch for the rise of rightwing politics

Stark warning of how many jobs could be lost. Every effort needs to be made getting people back to work and salvage as many livelihoods as possible. Sadly for MSM this would mean bringing an end to their political games, their own jobs are far from secure.

aha, that means they are not 'forced' to retain their workforce and can and most likely will, reduce their workforce if the economy takes a dive.

That's 2 less peerage candidates for next year.

Expecting redundancies.

My employer have said no to this. They are also paying back all the money they claimed in furlough payments.

Rightmoves profit per employee ratio is beyond belief

So confirmation they is redundances coming soon.

A £1,000 bonus to keep someone on until January doesn't make any sense when it will cost on average £7,000 in wages to get them to January.

Great examples of ethical businesses. I hope more companies follow suit!
