Some nursing homes have switched to treating only COVID-19 patients, who bring in more government money. But to make room for them, the original residents are forced out of places they've called home.

"The first day I arrived [at Leonard Manor], I said, 'Oh, this is heaven.' And I just felt so safe with those people and they were so caring," she says. "I've spent many a weekend in bed because there was no one to get me up," says the woman, who needs help to get from her bed to her wheelchair. "My concern when COVID hit was there would be those in the industry who saw an opportunity to trade low-paying Medicaid residents for high-paying COVID patients," he says.

Well, not in Indiana! We do not seek out nor take positive residents until they test negative. Our goal is to keep it out!

EaglesElatis Don’t give a fcuk about the elderly or children. Keep saying that.

Those death panels, yo

Just close to 4 years ago we had peace and prosperity and were a respected world power. That's R-E-S-P-E-C-T, not fear. Now we are viewed as the plague rat, and our elderly suffer and die alone. Trump and Kushner profit, and LAUGH at the suffering and death. Do not forget.

SADLY, no one is exempt from greediness! All they have to do is put COVID as a diagnosis and they get a LOT of State/Federal MONEY! An untrue diagnosis is CHEATING for money, shameful!

Did NPR report on the 5,000 dead in NY nursing homes due to the governor ordering nursing homes to take Covid patients?

Yeah we know. Cuomo did this and killed thousands along with the governors of NJ, PA, MI, and CA

What, respectfully, the fuck

This headline does not exist in a civilized society.

Deadly for sure! My great aunt is dying as I type this from covid that was brought into her nursing home by employees! We cant be with her, so she lived to be almost 90,has a very close family & has to die alone! They tried to setup facetime so we can watch! That's just sick...

You can not legal do this. NPR found someone who believes that is what happened. Have a sensational headline to spread false information.

Horrendous 💔

Hmm, who knew $ was more important that tending to the old?

Report twitter for such a lie. Another sensational headline with no facts.

Where So not true. This is so false. You use many. So you don’t have to be clear and accurate. This no even permitted by law. Twitter should fact check NPR. Shame on you.

Under capitalism your life only has as much value as the wealth it creates. Compassion is incompatible with financial success.

this makes me want to say all the shit that will get me suspended

As we've seen, keeping them in the nursing home while covid-19 patients move in is even more deadly. (Ideally, the incentive system would be designed to avoid either scenario).

Human furniture

AS THIS IS A STORY NOW? Where have you been?

' to make way for COVID-19 patients, who can bring in up to four times as much money. ' DO AUDITS!

Private homes are incentivized to make money, not care.

THIS is NOT acceptable!!! 🔼
