At least 50 people are dead and thousands more injured in Beirut after two explosions rocked the Lebanese capital.

An Australian has been killed in a series of explosions in Beirut, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has confirmed. At least 70 people are dead and three thousand more injured after two explosions rocked the Lebanese capital.

Local media outlets said the explosions happened in the Port area where warehouses held explosive materials and possibly fireworks. Emergency crews remain at the scene treating the injured as flames and plumes of smoke billow into the sky. Local hospitals are reportedly turning away casualties as they reach full capacity. More are believed to be trapped inside their homes after shockwaves smashed windows and damaged structures.
