Parliament is set to resume today in Canberra in historic form as parliamentarians attend for the first time in nearly 70 days in a partially virtual form due to coronavirus concerns.

Some members will appear via video-link from their electorate offices or their homes however will not be allowed to interject or vote and will be placed on mute, while everyone physically present will be required to wear masks. The Opposition was keen to persecute a number of key issues, including the government's aged care response.

Meanwhile Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has revealed the nation’s balance sheet hangs around $200 billion due to the “immense” cost of the coronavirus crisis. He indicated the economy was going at two speeds as it was held back in part by Victoria’s strict lockdowns, while the rest of Australia was bouncing back. The Treasurer said of the 1.3 million jobs lost due to the pandemic, half had been recovered with New South Wales leading the jobs front.
