KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government's recent decision to restore 5,878 country lease titles from a 99-year lease to the original 999-year lease has been lauded by the Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Shareda).

The association's president Datuk Chew Sang Hai said the 99-year lease policy, which was implemented since 1990, has upset many landowners and other related stakeholders. He said over the past 12 years, Shareda has taken proactive efforts to counter the policy.

He said Shareda had also submitted findings and presented the report to the previous state government during the many dialogues and meetings. “We are fortunate that we once again presented our findings and reports to the present government and received a favourable and positive response. Hence all our sacrifices and efforts finally paid off, ” he added.
