The report says that there were 139 Covid-19 related deaths in the county between mid-March and the end of June.
When compared with the period March to June for the years 2015-2019, the total number of excess deaths from all cases for the same period this year was 204.It found there was also an unexplained excess of 65 deaths due to natural causes in March to June. Prof Cusack said that examination of these potential causes requires further study following this first acute phase of the pandemic.
The report calls for a better coroner central database to ensure faster information on deaths and causes and which would also assist research.
