An architect, Mr Jonathan Emejulu, speaks to RAPHAEL EDE about his twin residential duplex which was pulled down by the Enugu State Government in execution of an order of the state High Court to take possession of his landed property that affected some parts of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugutwin duplex was demolished penultimate Friday by the Enugu State Government, two days after you were accused of demolishing some metres of an uncompleted airport fence.
Next thing, he went there and launched a Free Trade Zone. He said the land was now Enugu State land. How? Is it by acquisition or what? And he brought one contractor known as Empower Nigeria Ltd from Port Harcourt. They started doing funny things there and, as they were doing that, they were busy selling — they sold some structures there to some politicians. So, I said no and I went to court because they came that time and demolished over 25 buildings of people I sold land to.
Yes, I was invited three years ago. This governor, Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, invited me. I went to him, we discussed and I told him, ‘Look what is happening?’ He called his commissioner for land who is also his cousin, Solomon Onah, that night and warned him that they should stop going there to disturb me because the land belongs to Emejulu. I am telling you exactly what happened at that time. So, I thought, ‘Okay, everything is over.
Since the government said it has acquired the land for the airport, have you been notified of that decision?
