A fall in migrants during the pandemic is causing a sharp drop in housing demand, with the sector urging the government to create a migration plan and extend HomeBuilder incentives.

Evidence from the global financial crisis suggests economic factors such as the unemployment rate and the exchange rate are also important for international students in selecting Australia.

The past two recessions also show rising unemployment tends to lead to a decline in natural population growth.Property Council chief executive Ken Morrison said the report painted a scenario that cannot be allowed to happen."A roadmap for restarting our migration program should be a top priority for national cabinet."

Sell sell sell!

Sure, nothing to do with inflated prices and dodgy building standards. I wouldn’t buy a new unit for quids!

Great! We might be able to afford to finally rent!

Confirms this unsustainable policy is set up for developers, business council. It does bugger all 4 anyone here, it drives up real estate keeping young ppl out of the market. It doesn’t address an ageing population & creates congestion costing $20bill pa

What? Immigration is determined by developers? Is that why we are being flooded by immigrants? So developers can sell homes? I'm sure Harry Trigaboff wouldn't let that happen in Israel.

Or maybe just end the ponzi scheme ?

All ponzis must come to an end.

What's a 'migrant?' Seriously. What kind of 'migrant' is driving housing demand? 😎

Why don't they let them out to people who are already here and are homeless. Give them support to find jobs and get their lives back in order....give them a hand so they can have a go.

Or just build social housing to eliminate homelessness.

Shouldn't there be a lot less after the pandemic, what with all the deaths and stuff? Or are we going to cop covid 19 refugees now?

I thought high population growth through immigration didn't drive up property prices?!

Or they could make it easier for people to get into the property market especially after they have had their income affected and had to spend their deposit on essentials

Why don't you have policies to increase real wages, and productivity and let people afford homes?

Wouldn't want property prices to fall and be affordable now would we. Gotta keep the Ponzi rolling

If it stops property developers building more tiny apartments that no-one actually wants, and subdividing perfectly good property into terrible town houses, then surely it's a good thing.

The LNP's Homebuilder incentive not available to owner builders. Project home companies will simply profit, not the people. Australian government is no different to Stalin's government.

How about housing the Australian Homeless and those Australian’s who are at risk of homelessness?

'An increase in rain has had a reducing effect on wild fires in the area, with arson enthusiasts calling for government to increase spending on accelerants.'

or, social housing

That’s what happens when you base your entire economy around services (hospitality etc) and building houses for higher & higher migrant numbers. Maybe my kids will be able to afford a house now Just a thought.

Property investors are panicking?

So supply and demand is a thing? Now do wages!!!

This headline has let the WHOLE cat out of the bag!

So everyone who says migrants don't increase house prices were lying. Good to know

Or drop the price for locals? Call me crazy
