A fire in Sydney’s northwest caused dozens to be evacuated from their homes, destroyed two cars and left police scratching for answers.

Flames engulfed a carport in Eastwood before police and other emergency services were called to the site at Rowe Street at about 10pm.

The fire destroyed the shed and two cars, one of which was reportedly a BMW. A third vehicle was heavily damaged. Up to 80 people were evacuated from their homes as flames engulfed a carport in Eastwood in Sydney. Picture: 10 NewsOfficers from Ryde Police Area Command evacuated between 30 and 40 residents of a nearby unit complex, as well as diners at several restaurants adjacent to the site, while Fire and Rescue NSW worked to extinguish the blaze.Firefighters extinguished the blaze before midnight and no injuries have been reported.Residents near the carport were evacuated after midnight.
