Will anyone miss former Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy except millionaire property developers, institutional investors and Oliver Callan?
An observer would never conclude that this man’s tenure as Housing Minister was a time when dozens of homeless people died and thousands of families continued to live in squalid conditions as rents rocketed out of control. Those living in tents along the main streets of our capital city who are often kicked and urinated upon by passers-by might dispute the definition of victim with the former minister’s media cheerleaders.
A case in point being when 600 people mysteriously disappeared from the homeless figures at the end of one month. Eoghan Murphy did absolutely nothing to fix the housing crisis; indeed because of the actions of his party many young people will be denied the right of ever owning a home. Indeed, in some quarters Minister Murphy’s years in office will be deemed successful as his party’s policies managed to drive up rents and house prices to help make a killing for the big landlords and developers.
