According to resident reports posted on a neighbourhood Block Watch page, there were thefts at almost a dozen properties in the Sumas Prairie beginning Sunday night when tools and hunting gear were stolen from a truck.
In one case, someone discovered a person wearing a ski mask in their shop, trying to break into their car. Another person reported that Christmas presents had been stolen. More reports of thefts were posted to the group on Monday morning and Tuesday night as residents vowed to keep an eye on each other’s properties.Article content
Abbotsford police have not confirmed whether the two individuals arrested are connected to the specific reports shared on social media.Almost 15,000 people were evacuated last month after torrential downpour and overflowing waterways flooded parts of southerwestern B.C., including Abbotsford’s Sumas Prairie.Meanwhile, recovery and cleanup in the Sumas Prairie continues, after the final evacuation order was lifted for the central prairie last week.
