The Chicago City Council is meeting to consider a gang asset seizure proposal by Mayor Lori Lightfoot after the Public Safety Committee approved it.

CHICAGO -- Chicago authorities could seize street gang members' property under a proposed ordinance headed for a vote in the full City Council. The council's Public Safety Committee approved Mayor Lori Lightfoot's plan 10-4 on Thursday, though several alderman expressed doubt it would actually lower crime as police and city officials claim.

Opposing aldermen on the panel also worried that the ordinance is too vague, though Lightfoot altered the original proposal aiming to more specifically target"adult gang leaders" rather than young members. The Chicago Tribune reports that the proposal could allow judges or court officers to seize"any property that is directly or indirectly used or intended for use in any manner to facilitate street gang-related activity.

Taking lessons from Trudeau huh?

And all of theirs for crimes on Elizabeth Ann Sebesta and hers!

Y’all need to stop telling ur every move Mayor

ain’t gonna help. These aren’t gangs of the past, w high ’s in “membership” or financial sense. THESE are CLUSTERS of guys that “claim” territory.. in blocks, & that’s why there’s so many shootings/kills/crime bc w/o parental/esp father guidance … they’re running amuck

What, are they planning on opening a jewelry/gun store?

that is so stupid and not what we need. we need tough laws that keep criminals in jail

Waste of time and resources. This will probably only wrongfully take the assets of retired grandmothers.

The city knows how to seize their assets but can’t put any of them in jail?

I'm sure they don't pay taxes on the millions in drug profits.

After removing gang database

It's organized crime or it is not. Gangs, wtf!
