The Victorian government has demanded Wendy Lovell apologise for saying there was 'no point' putting social housing in areas where children from low-income families 'cannot mix' with other children.

A Victorian Liberal MP is under fire for saying there was "no point" putting social housing in affluent suburbs where children from low-income families "cannot mix" with other children.Wendy Lovell said there would be no point putting social housing in areas where children from different backgrounds cannot mix

Shadow housing minister Wendy Lovell's comments have drawn a rebuke from the government and forced her party leader to apologise on her behalf. "This particular development in Brighton that she refers to is a redevelopment of some of our oldest concrete public housing walk-up flats, which are well past their use-by date."

Opposition Leader Matthew Guy said Ms Lovell was "trying to find the best intention" but her comments were poorly phrased.

What's is it with LNP women? They all come from the same Karen factory?

Stock standard lib

Surely this is not what the libs all think should happen DrDavidHoney . Go on lay down your cards, say state housing should not be in applecross, mosmon park, dalkeith, etc, or in your suburb for that matter. Go on here is your chance to go against your fellow libs.

Why would you build social housing on the most expensive land? Cheaper land means more houses doesn't it.🤡

This is how they think.

This is how so many people think. Despite how badly lumping all the public housing together worked in the UK they don't care because they don't want to be around poor and minorities.

Sure her comments were disgraceful but the question remains!!!!!🧐🧐🧐

Disgraceful? This actually a deliberate tactic to remind wealthy folks which party is looking out for their interests. 🤣

At least the words came out. It may surprise but sometimes the only way you know what you are thinking is for you to open your mouth. Then people can disagree and you may reflect on what you said. Or people will come to know you better. I thought these were the basis of debate.

Average Liberal MP

Shocking. The burghers of Brighton are this very moment doing a big fundraiser to add to the already substantial stock of public housing between North Rd and Dendy St

ding dong...who needs a new script writer?

This waste of political space needs to retire now, even the Victorians (the other ones) had higher aspirations for disadvantaged people even though they were to embarked on a 50 year program of segregating the less desirable from the worthy.

Not Kimberley again then?

They were not ‘disgraceful’ … very apt

'They don't have the same ability to have the latest in sneakers and iPhones et cetera.' Very scientific analysis, thanks WendyLovellMP.

I mean, this is sort of fair. My local neighbourhood crime page regularly has posts about a group of kids from one public housing home. They little shits run around causing trouble and have taken up killing as many native birds with a sling shot. Nothing is done about it.

It just shows how we talk ourselves into Propaganda pre 2nd world war. That ideology of white self privilege and elitism. I recall hearing the same mentality 0n the arrival of Greek,Italian, Turkish and British migrants in the 50s and the crime rate and murder was higher then.

SandyinKatoomba The children cannot mix with one another .............says so much about the Liberals.

What she meant to say was, if the LNP get in power, Matthew Guy will sell the existing stock to his developer friends for a 30% discount. Big fans of slumlords.

She said the quiet part out loud. It wasn’t clumsy, it was a clear articulation of her tightly held class based beliefs and those of her Tory constituents.

Rich people saying what they like. That's how the Liberal party operate.

Big 'know your place, loser' vibes from the elite. The class war rolls on.

Taxpayers are funding people to live in areas they themselves cannot afford live in?

But what she meant is not in our backyard

Classist crap. Shameful

I'd rather live next door to someone who welcomes those in need, than someone who wouldn't cross the road to help them. This woman is actually paid to help them, that's her job. What a disgrace the modern Liberals are.
