There are currently 145 customer homes without power, according to Matanuska Electric Association, after this morning's avalanche that has covered Hiland Road in Eagle River with at least 40 feet of snow. THE LATEST:

, police responded around 1:15 a.m. to a section of 2400 Hiland Road, near South River Lane, that was blocked from a slide, with measurements of “40+ feet of snow.”

After surveying the area by foot and with a drone, police said no homes were directly affected by the avalanche and no people appear to be trapped in the snow. They added that residents uphill of 2200 Hiland Road may have limited utilities. MAT+SAR Search & Rescue, a nonprofit that works in coordination with the Alaska State Troopers,according to a power outage map

provided by Matanuska Electric Association. That accounts for almost 40% of MEA customers in the Hiland Road area. Police said snow clearing could take several days. They advised residents not to walk or drive snowmachines on the avalanche slide, as the snowpack may be unstable.

I wish them well, and hopefully they invest in generators and renewable power. AS for MEA, in my opinion - - stone age infrastructure plans seeking modern monies. They get NONE of mine.
