RTÉ News understands that this includes an expanded"voids programme" whereby vacant social homes will be brought back into use.Local authorities will be asked to submit the numbers of such properties available in each area and the extent of work that is needed.

I'm all for the government helping refugees of war torn countries,and the onus should be to ensure they are safe and warm with food in their bellys,not to give them social housing when young families have to remain at home with their parents or be put into 'homeless accomodation'

Did I miss something, why are there 10k Irish citizens classified as homeless if there are plenty of vacant social houses available. Is it that our govt doesn't care about them and are happy to keep them in hotels for years but that's not unacceptable for Ukrainian refugees?
If I was suffering homelessness I’d be really sad about how little my life is worth to the Irish state. Such gusto to help home thousands of Ukrainians, while I go from shop door to hostel to some other form of emergency nightly accommodation.
