Germany has filed a case against Italy at the UN's highest court over attempts within Italy to claim compensation for Nazi-era war crimes.
Berlin says it is bringing the complaint now because of two ongoing cases that could see properties in Rome owned by the German state seized to finance compensation payments. The dispute dates back to 2008, when Italy's highest court ruled that Germany should pay around €1m to relatives of nine people who were among 203 killed by German forces in Tuscany in 1944.
Its filing cites a part of the 2012 ruling that says that, by allowing the claims in its courts, Italy had "violated its obligation to respect the immunity which the Federal Republic of Germany enjoys under international law".
Well done Germany. Hopefully they're successful.
Germany really I think you need to have a rethink but this just makes me think my vote to be out of the eu was right bloody wrong, you can’t come out against Russia just shows Germany is out for its self never to be trusted
germany still pissed about what a shitty sidekick italy was in wwii
Germany apologized every year to Israel for something that happened 70 some years ago, now Italy wants a piece of the pie, Israel gets a lot from Germany and the world
An Austrian commenting on the cars of Ukranian refugees, Mercedes and Maybachs (very nice!)
The Italian lawyers will change sides halfway through the case.
Pathetic
Any Italian property owned in UK? can we seize that to pay for the Romans coming over
