California likely will have an energy shortfall equivalent to what it takes to power about 1.3 million homes when use is at its peak during the hot and dry summer months, state officials said Friday.

equivalent to what it takes to power about 1.3 million homes when use is at its peak during the hot and dry summer months, state officials said Friday.

State models assume the state will have 1,700 fewer megawatts of power than it needs during the times of highest demand — typically early evening as the sun sets — in the hottest months when air conditioners are in full use. "The only thing we expect is to see new and surprising conditions, and we’re trying to be prepared for those," said Alice Reynolds, president of the California Public Utilities Commission, which regulates major utilities such as Pacific Gas & Electric. The Bay Area was spared on Wednesday as the latest flex alert expired. But the constant threat of power outages and rate hikes has customers concerned.

Mark Rothleder, senior vice president for the system operator, said the state would be more likely to experience blackouts again this year if the entire West has a heat wave at the same time. That would hinder California’s ability to buy excess power from other states. Wildfires could also hinder the state’s ability to keep the power on, he said.

Why the government pretending like they can’t control the weather. Just make it rain

If the heat is going 2 effect the grid what is going 2 happen when elec cars start plugging in .?

The tech capital of the world can’t keep the lights on. This is what happens when you go all in on green energy before it can sustain your population.

If it’s predictable it’s preventable.🙃

Probably should stop building the train to nowhere and put the funds into something useful

PGE4Me you charged us extra after you were forced 2 pay the manslaughters, bet you guys broke even now, now upgrade the cables & ask counties with high energy usage 2 cut back on building new houses just for a bit, till blackouts are resolved, CAgovernor

What about charging all the Tesla’s? 😂

Can we invest some of that billions in surplus to shore up our energy grid? Now is the time. It’d create more jobs too!

No need to worry. I’m sure PG&E is on it.

When pigs fly. They will black out still

And Uncle Joe tells use to go out and get our electric vehicles all the while knowing our infrastructure grid is not ready. A leader truly in touch with his constituents.

This is why I had to have an expensive generator put in and attached to my house! I am disabled and can’t risk the heat. It is unbelievable that our state hasn’t fixed this issue. Are they trying to show the world that green power doesn’t work?

What a shock! You encourage more electricity usage through decarbonization, while at the same time taking down nuclear and natural gas plant production. Who could have predicted this? A 3rd grade math student could have predicted this.

Nice job Democrats

3rd World state is CA

Energy companies skyrocketed in earnings.

Unbelievable. Buy electric cars. I can’t use my power from 4 pm to 9 pm unless I want to sell my belongings to pay for it. What an f-ed up state- or is it the current elected officials that are f-ed up?

I’m imagining all the smug EV owners right now worried about being able to charge their cars in the summer.
