Unlike income taxes, wealth taxes take into account total assets and liabilities, such as property values, personal debt and investments

Internal government documents show Prime Minister Justin Trudeau requested a personal briefing on the merits of a tax on extreme wealth last summer, just weeks before he triggered the 2021 election campaign.

This type of measure is very uncommon globally, but the concept is attracting increasing attention as political leaders ponder potential responses to wealth inequality and concerns that the world’s ultrarich should be paying more tax.a Thursday morning in mid-July, when Parliamentary Budget Officer Yves Girouxanalyzing M-68, a motion put forward by Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith in the House of Commons. The motion expressed support for a wealth tax.

The message says that, while the report contains an analysis of the policy’s merits, “this is a complex issue and the views expressed in this memo are preliminary. Any further consideration/analysis of such a policy would require the involvement of the Department of Finance and Canada Revenue Agency.” It also notes that the PBO had said there was “considerable uncertainty” regarding its revenue projections, owing to a number of factors.A few weeks after the report was delivered, Mr.

“We believe that the Trudeau government should be studying ways to save money and attract investment, not studying new ways to raise taxes,” he said. In February 2021, University of British Columbia economics professor Kevin Milligan, who was acting at the time as a temporary special adviser on economic recovery in the PCO, provided senior Finance officials with a note titled “Tax Tools for Wealth Inequality.”“Please find attached a note on tax measures to address wealth inequality. I hope you will find it complementary to your own analysis and recommendations,” Mr. Milligan wrote in a Feb. 4, 2021 e-mail.

Just another way Trudope hurts economy? I wonder if he has to pay them? Again, we are penalized for his fuck ups!

Oh course he did… so instead of getting control of spending he wants to raise taxes. This country is screwed.

I don't trust ANYTHING he does!

Remember what the man said. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Good. He should go through with it. And the CTF (neither represents tax-payers nor is a federation) can go straight to hell.

He has failed at growing the tax base, so instead he’s taxing the contributors.

Time for the class war to restart as a two sided affair rather than as a one sided sabotage Living wages pegged to productivity, dignity at work and social mobility Mass mobilization, general strikes and direct action ftw Kick them in the capitalism until they beg for mercy

Well, that kinda goes against what the Fuck Trudeau crowd thinks that Trudeau is only in politics to enrich himself and the elites🤔 CdnMAGA FakeOutrage PierrePoilievreIsLyingToYou

Normal. I imagine all governments consider policies, especially if those policies are getting attention from voters.

In otherwords, he was doing policy briefings?

A wealth tax is paid with money obtained by selling assets to some who also have to get their money to buy those assets by selling their assets…and on and on… in that Merry-Go-Round that slows by governments collecting sale and other taxes in each turn.

Good, hope he goes through with it.

That’s what they always say
