In a newly released report from the Menzies Institute for Medical Research and the Centre for Air Pollution, Energy and Health Research , scientists found gas use for cooking and heating produced a variety of air pollutants that affected lung health, especially for those with asthma. "In reality, gas use in the home worsens air quality and this has impacts on people's health and, in particular, their respiratory health.
"Asthma is a complex disease that has many causes but, in the case of gas stoves, it's very clear that the nitrogen dioxide that is produced by these stoves is more harmful for kids when it comes to asthma. "Incentives should also be provided to allow schools, workplaces and residential aged care facilities to monitor their air quality and [to] meet these new indoor standards," Professor Zosky said."A lot of vulnerable households won't be able to switch easily from gas stoves to a healthier, safer alternative, like an electric or induction stove," she said.

Don’t use gas… use coal powered electricity instead. It’s much better since it pollutes another part of the country in someone else’s backyard.
Yet the government has been pushing gas for years. When we had to have our water heater replaced around 10 years ago we said we wanted a gas replacement and the plumber said you don't have a choice as governments are phasing out electric ones.
