According to insurance and financial website Ratesdotca, credit unions and private lenders made up about 3.7 per cent of the country's mortgage business last year and have already handled about 6.7 per cent so far this year.

Why put CUs in with private lenders? Most people who use them see the as “slightly better banks”. It is where the paycheque is deposited, the debit/credit card, etc.
