Colorado will spend $95 million to create two new campuses to help people transition out of homelessness — including supportive housing, behavioral health services and job training — under a pair of laws signed by Gov. Jared Polis on Tuesday.

. In all, the report found 32,233 individuals accessed support services for people experiencing homelessness between July 1, 2020, and June 30, 2021. Nearly 13,000 individuals lived outdoors at some point.

Both campuses aim to provide full wraparound services to people, including transitional housing, help with mental health and substance use disorders and job training. The Ridge View Campus must also provide transportation for residents and the public. “Because of this bill, there will be thousands of Coloradans who will be able to support themselves, have a family, live out their lives in our great state, recover their dignity, have a home, because of the work that will occur in this facility,” Polis said at the signing to repurpose the Ridge View Campus.

At both signings, he noted that these bills are the state providing support to local communities. In the case of Ridge View, it included the use of existing state property to help speed up the program becoming operational. It is being done in partnership with Aurora and Arapahoe County. The Ridge View Campus operated as the Ridge View Youth Services Center for 20 years, before state officials shut it down in 2021. Kids there attended an on-campus charter school and received intense treatment for behavioral health issues. Complaints against it included students running away, drugs, fights and inappropriate use of restraints,That campus covers 100-plus acres, with industrial shops for welding and carpentry, a gym, cafeteria, medical facilities and 126 rooms.

transitional housing, help with mental health and substance use disorders and job training. 👍🏽

This is good news. Just providing housing is not enough to resolve these problems. So glad to see that all services needed are being provided.

Make sure addiction support is a top priority.

Good job

So much I need to know about these programs before I can really comment. Like, will they require CJS? Employment options? Types of housing options beyond the program? Required clean time? Funding beyond the one time influx? Criteria to qualify and is it voluntary?

Send them to Delaware.

It's about time! Better than money spent on sweeps 👏

Making Denver a MORE attractive location to be homeless is only going to cause an increase in homelessness. This is a choice for most of these folks.

Where these campuses going to be?......and when is the state going to do something about jail and prison overcrowding.

Translation from Guv: “I’ve seen the tremendous homeless problem in Denver. Let’s ship the burden to Southeast Aurora residents. No one ever books a convention or trade show there.”

Love this

It’s worth a shot. We need to get these people off the streets and clean up our city. It’s really out of control.

At least he's Trying to help. Better than any of you naysayers.

Well we will see that’s all I’m saying. I think Denver’s infrastructure is in more need DON’ you

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Sounds like a plan 💁🏼‍♀️

Love this maybe I'm being naive but this seems excellent to me.

Every Democrat is guilty of not taking homeless in off The streets and forcing others to pay for them.

Problem with this is most homeless people have mental health problems or personality disorders and have no desire to be 'rehabilitated.' So lots of tax dollars are going to go to so politicians can say they did something.
