Ford says supply is one of the main reasons for the crisis in housing and he wants to focus on finding vacant or surplus government property.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he will have a very "aggressive" housing plan moving forward. The Canadian PressMayor John Tory and Premier Doug Ford speak at a news conference after a closed-door meeting Monday at Queen’s Park in Toronto.

"The land, that plays such a critical role in the cost of housing anywhere," Ford said at a joint press conference with Toronto Mayor John Tory. Ford said looking at provincial and federal lands will be his first step in his new government, elected earlier this month. The approach will still be one of consultation and collaboration with municipalities, Ford suggested.

Take a look at the former Huronia Regional Centre buildings and land in Orillia. Unused for decades except for a small percentage used by the OPP. Various organizations have wanted to develop it for year. Let’s see how quickly you follow through on your plan.

Aka, greenbelt

Blah blah blah.

It’s Airbnb Dougie . Why won’t you people address the real issue on the housing crisis

Good idea

now more rich people can buy more houses and turn them into rooming houses.

Aggressive...Ford? Who would have thought?

There is a butt load of unused Properties, mansions, hotels, motels, empty office buildings dotting the landscape all over this province. Want to make a change those are the properties that can be used to make that change, and fast!

What an interesting way of saying 'my removal of rent controls has had a devastating effect on housing by causing developers to focus solely on new builds while allowing existing properties, still forced to follow rent control guidelines, to deteriorate into an unusable state.

Well fordnation - crowbar in wallet time. Talk to the Federal government, and also see what the province has that could be reconfigured or made vacant. Partner with the Federal government to develop more affordable housing and in doing so, leave an actual legacy worthy of praise

How about building affordable homes instead of Rds ....

Surely it’s not the people buying properties and turning them into rentals.

No such thing as government property. It all belongs to the tax payers.

'There are more than a million empty homes in Canada and on any given night at least 35,000 Canadians are homeless.'

His government does not know what properties are vacant?

fordnation maybe use the expropriated land purchased for the pointless highway nobody wants.

Douggy, maybe your nephew can fix this. Like Jared Kushner fixed all of America’s problems. jaredkushner

How much has the population grown in the past 2.5 pandemic years to make housing such a dilemma in canada? And why?

Idiot

a real conservative would fix this, a lazy populist wont. we will see

Tool belt is on and tudeau is on his way to help. there is not a costume he wont wear and no sympathy train he wont ride for votes and for our saftey

Govt property he can give to his friends who can the make huge profits from the public’s largess. Ontario Oligarchs will be an actual thing thanks to DoFo.

how about de-zoning agricultural land

What about all of the surplus corporate properties now that so many office workers can just work from home?

Learn something from Singapore.

Vacant means farmland for his buddies.

Stop building single family dwellings. The days of home, 3.5 kids, white picket fence and a dog are done. Build only multiple family dwellings.

Won't solve anything. Giant money laundering scheme with foreigners buying everything without even looking. But I'm sure the money is flowing in the right direction..

Did any of you tell him that he's full of shit?

Ford is still an idiot, Investors owned 21.6% of total housing stock in 2020 and 34.7% of homes built after 2016. 1 in 5 homes in Ontario are investor-owned, but they managed to scoop 1 in 3 new homes. Investor owners are a disproportionately large share of new homeownership.

then what, sell them to your developer cronies for their profit. sounds like the gravy train is back in husiness eh?

That’s fordnation excuse for making him and his friends richer and get rid of green-space!

Airbnbs need to be limited to allow more rentable space. We need more tiny homes and fewer restrictions on what we call a home.

This is bs. Billionaires are buying up properties and charging outrageous rents. That’s why there’s a housing crisis. The crisis is caused by right-wing shenanigans - the fascist plutocracy that’s creating all the crises and spewing this bs later.

Is Ontario's slogan 'open for business' or 'up for sale?'

translation: selling off even more of the province to private corporations so they can milk Ontarians dry how about using those MZOs to break up the yellow belt in Toronto? OH YEAH cuz that would inconvenience all the millionaires

Ban foreign ownership.

He *IS* vacant and surplus government property!

It also needs to be affordable.

Thank you for information. Do you know that because of Israel's Apartheid Regime, a Palestinian person cannot vote in their own country?

Developers and speculators.
