The storm hit the area about 130 km northwest of Calgary at around 3 p.m., leaving a trail of destruction but causing only one minor injury – a piece of debris striking a person in the hand, said RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney.
Pictures taken in the area after the storm had passed showed damaged outbuildings, shredded vegetation and down power lines. At that moment, Hagan said she felt safe because she could see where the storm was headed, adding she’s been observing such storms for 12 years. The same weather system pounded parts of Calgary with heavy rain and marble-sized hail late Thursday afternoon, submerging some low-lying streets.Activity with tornado potential appeared to be bearing down on Calgary, said Terri Lang, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada.
