All homes are now eligible to get a grant to put an electric vehicle charging point at their house, even if they don't have an electric vehicle.New research has shown that electric vehicles are cheaper to run than traditional vehicles.The new Zero Emissions Vehicles Ireland strategy also includes a three-month free trial of electric cars for businesses to encourage them to switch their fleet to electric.

Transport Minister Eamon Ryan is set to launch the electric vehicle plan at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin later today. Among the measures is an apartment charging grant to make it easier for those living in multi-unit dwellings to charge an electric vehicle.The current home charging grant will also be extended to apply to all homeowners - regardless of what kind of car they own.

It is aimed at encouraging people to put an electric vehicle charging point at their home to make the switch easier for themselves, or for visitors or if they are renting out their property. The grant will be open to all homeowners and will finance €600 towards the input of a charging point.Read more:
