Business groups are calling upon the City of Vancouver to quickly enact a supportive housing solution away from the DTES.

Business groups are calling upon the city to quickly enact a supportive housing solution away from the district, using funding and subsidies from the B.C. government.

“This is a business district. Though owners are devastated that so many people are homeless, they too are suffering, teetering on success or failure based on whether travellers explore our city,” Wagolet said. “Tourists are beginning to feel it’s too unsafe to visit shops because of their proximity to the area.”Article content

“We’ve had to double up on our private security, including hiring a guard to work weekends. It’s become dangerous, we’re seeing stabbings almost every day.” Vancouver police Sgt. Steve Addison confirmed that since the beginning of July disorder along East Hastings has increased. Nathan Murdoch, co-founder of Toonie Tours walking tour company, said many of his customers are shocked to encounter East Hastings, a street that sits between two of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods, Gastown and Chinatown.Article content

In Canada 🇨🇦 the problem is liberals and NDP aka the Canadian communists party that have destroyed everything great about this once great nation

Remove this tweet after today's shooting rampage!🤬

Tent cities are killing the actual cities! Slum to come.

I'm far more concerned about the folks living outside and the possibility of another heat wave, or another brutally cold winter like last year. We could in fact focus on solving the issues rather than worrying what the tourists will think

where the tents are the thickest there are no businesses other than the ones gouging the locals anyway. get out of your office sometime and take a walk.

You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. 😠 😡

No kidding.

I got an idea💡....let's vote in more lib nuts and they will fix the problem🙄

'Those are Tourists and that is a Local Business' - Vancouver City Hall (mindset)

JeanSwanson_ should not be city councillor, a role as policy maker for ALL Vancouverites including business owners & workers. She’s more suited as poverty advocate or welfare lobbyist. She does not care at all about income earning/taxpaying families & refuses to listen to them

No, you're missing it. A lot of Americans will never be bothered by the sidewalk pop-up stores because they don't want the bother of enduring the hassle of Canadian customs.

Those are pop-up stores!

Some tourists drive down Hastings in their cars to gawk and laugh among their selves in disbelief

So hugs, kisses and the velvet glove have failed. Time to get tough. Hell no. Let’s make drugs legal and just throw our arms up. Business is leaving. If you have to go through there, carry weapons.

'Concerns flare'? Pretty sure that the much bigger 'concerns' about our city's tourism summer high-season room & board rates already stopped most otherwise would-be-willing-to-come tourists even buying airfare to YVR in the first place. Downtown hotel room is $250 in a 2-star!

Downtown Seattle and SF are not safe anymore comparing to 10-15 years ago where we could have a family trip. The city of Vancouver mayor and council don’t care and have no vision of directing Vancouver into that direction. We need to change political view of local government

How is this new?

Vancouver City Council doesn’t care, why would they?

Vancouver is headed on the same path at San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland kennedystewart sarahkirby_yung LisaDominato rebeccaleebligh PtFry AdrianeCarr councillorwiebe christineeboyle CllrHardwick JeanSwanson_ BrendaBaileyBC Dave_Eby KenSimCity JohnCCoupar

JohnnyUtahVan How about a constant source of abuse for local residents? This affects lower income people the most as affluent people like the mayor can afford to live away from this hell. That’s why his entitled white privileged ass thinks Vancouver is safe. VOTE him him and Sleepy Swanson OUT

Craven politicians scratching their heads about why so many homeless while bragging about creating housing for low income people, while forgetting 2 or 3 or 4 times as many low income suites suites were removed.

How many of these people are actually long time BC residents? I’ll bet less than 50%. Why are we providing shelter to people that are not BC residents?

Why doesn’t the province develop a massive tenting ground up near Merritt? bcndp bcliberals jjhorgan TheCoalitionSF BC_Housing RenuBakshi

What do you think? No shit!

kennedystewart won’t do anything because it’s the party he’s been looking for! Now he just needs a Batman!

Stewart and his Council minions are going to have some legacy (to be ashamed of) come the October election when they all get ousted.

DtesTruthteller Let them burn 🔥

And rightfully so! I’d never go down there

Perfect group of contestants for a Squid Game IMO.

Tourists don’t visit Vancouver do they? Maybe on a Covid ship.

Get serious about the situation: medical help; mental health help; functional supportive housing…otherwise we get LA or SF problems.

DtesTruthteller How about concern for those stuck there. Tough love needed not kid gloves

The local Lower Mainland population having been scared away long ago.

This is what happens when progressives get control. Following the same path as San Francisco, Seattle and LA.

i believe it is time to rid ourselves of Mayor Stewpid and 90% of council members - that support all of this type of stuff. we need - law and order, we need clean streets and safe streets. we need businesses to operate and we need change. NOW
