Those protections include more frequent inspections, a stricter repair timeline, and rights for tenants to organize without fear of retaliation, among other things.
Now that the county has approved its portion of the funding, Houston Housing and Community Development Director Keith Bynam said the city will move forward with their end of the bargain. He said he expects the city to approve $15 million funding at the next City Council meeting on Aug. 16. Ellis said he plans to formalize the commitment in a memorandum of understanding at the next Commissioners Court meeting.
