BREAKING: U.S. officials believe Russia is working to fabricate evidence concerning last week's deadly strike on a prison housing prisoners of war in a separatist region of eastern Ukraine.

FILE - In this photo taken from video a view of a destroyed barrack at a prison in Olenivka, in an area controlled by Russian-backed separatist forces, eastern Ukraine, on July 29, 2022. Russia and Ukraine accused each other Friday of shelling a prison in a separatist region of eastern Ukraine, an attack that reportedly killed dozens of Ukrainian military prisoners who were captured after the fall of a southern port city of Mariupol in May.

WASHINGTON — U.S. officials believe Russia is working to fabricate evidence concerning last week’s deadly strike on prison housing prisoners of war in a separatist region of eastern Ukraine. U.S. intelligence officials have determined that Russia is looking to plant false evidence to make it appear that Ukrainian forces were responsible for the July 29 attack on Olenivka Prison that left 53 dead and wounded dozens more, a U.S. official familiar with the intelligence finding told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Russia has claimed that Ukraine’s military used U.S.-supplied rocket launchers to strike the prison in Olenivka, a settlement controlled by the Moscow-backed Donetsk People’s Republic. The Ukrainian military denied making any rocket or artillery strikes in Olenivka. The intelligence arm of the Ukrainian defense ministry claimed in a statement Wednesday to have evidence that local Kremlin-backed separatists colluded with the Russian FSB, the KGB’s main successor agency, and mercenary group Wagner to mine the barrack before “using a flammable substance, which led to the rapid spread of fire in the room.

why such a hurry and preemptive conclusions, before the UN examines the case?

'The official, who was not authorized to comment publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity...' Lol. Super reliable source from an unbiased party.... NOT US intelligence Propaganda disguised as news.

Imagine the Ukraine Intelligence the SSU conveniently having witnesses on the ground who claimed it wasn’t a missile strike.

Ukraine are fabricating it to hide their incompetence

Separatist region California

I'm old enough to remember when we could depend upon AP to report accurately. That hasn't been the case for at least a decade. 'separatist region'? Stop f.k.n.g insulting Ukraine and licking Putin's **** , AP. *OCCUPIED REGION*.

Believe = know

And why would Russia slaughter the golden goose

Of course Russia is fabricating evidence, but it’s not in a “separatist region”, but in a “Russian occupied region”.

How is that 'BREAKING'? They were doing it AT LEAST since 2014

The Arian Press (blue badge)

This is the continuation of this pattern of behavior for Russia.

This press is the most desperate and one sided bullshit

How can you tell a Russian is telling lies? His lips move

Breaking news - SaudiArabia was behind 911 and the USA used their own allies terrorist attack as a pretext to push its own MiddleEast foreign policy aims (while protecting the terrorist supporting Saudis.)

Siri, what's Gaslighting? 'Gaslighting happens when an abuser tries to control a victim by twisting their sense of reality. An example of gaslighting would be a partner doing something abusive and then accusing the other side of that offence.'

No body he his right thinking brain will believe American and NATO propaganda

There is already overwhelming evidence that the POW camp was hit by by a US supplied HIMARS rocket. The Russians don't have to fabricate something that already exists.

I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you!
