After losing their dream property to an offer $200,000 higher than theirs, buyers Scott and Angela Clayton went big on this three-bed, three-bath property on the water with a walkout basement. Their bid? Well over asking. Find out by how much:

of Maclean’s, and each week here online, recent buyers divulge what they had to do to acquire the cottages of their dreams: pool family money, send relatives for viewings, hop on the first flight to Atlantic Canada post-bubble, or buy sight unseen, sometimes from thousands of kilometres away.On a good traffic day, residents of the Greater Toronto Area can make it to tree-studded Kawartha Lakes in under two hours.

In July of 2021, Canada removed the quarantine requirement for visiting vaccinated Canadians; I was in the Kawarthas looking at cottages within 24 hours. Scott is American and can’t work here, so we wanted to find a place close enough to the airport so he could come for short stays. It also had to be big enough to host a bunch of friends, so we needed a minimum of three bedrooms. I also wanted good swimming water; no weeds or muck.

Turf war heats up between real estate disruptor and industry establishment | CBC NewsThe Ottawa entrepreneur behind Unreserved, an online home auction platform, who pleaded guilty to fraud charges over fudged car loans in 2009 is back in court as a plaintiff accusing three trade associations of trying to damage and crowd out his latest venture. Is this a news article or a paid advertisement for the real estate boards? I don't know anything about this case but the writer of the article sure wants you to not trust this guy! Have an agenda or what? I bought a house at an online auction a few years ago. Took me 15 minutes of bidding to get it. Non of this bidding over asking bullshit carrying on for days or weeks. Both sides still use a real estate lawyer of their choice. Been to dozens of live farm auctions too. Fraud and Ottawa go hand in hand
