She was named locally as mother-of-three Miriam Burns. Neighbours in Ardshanavooley, a mature and close-knit estate on the eastern edge of Killarney town centre, were shocked and upset at the news. Gardaí strongly suspect the victim met with foul play, which resulted in her death. It is understood the victim had an injury, or a bleed, from her mouth or face.
