Mr Kenny said the report showed if the wall was raised and the dam turned into a flood mitigation dam, thousands of homes in the region west of Sydney would be protected – with this being the “single most effective flood mitigation option available”.
“This is an area that has suffered five floods in the past few years, with devastating consequences and a massive recovery bill,” he said. “But, as is always the case with big projects like this, the estimated $2 billion cost remains an issue, with the NSW government looking to go halves with the feds.”
Not releasing water early, when you know there's going to be a lot of rain?
As well as better flood immunity for people downstream it will protect the dam wall from catastrophic failure ( main reason for the raising) - those objecting to the raising are putting the lives of millions of Sydney people at greater risk
