Seniors advocate Patricia Spindel, 74, says she lives in fear of being sent to a hospital and then off to a home far from her family.
She compared it to the periods of the COVID-19 pandemic when families were banned from long-term care homes for months at a time. On Thursday, the province introduced legislation that would allow hospital patients awaiting a bed to be transferred to a “temporary” home while they await space in their preferred home.

Seniors can't even get into LTC. Where do they think these imaginary homes are that are just sitting with empty beds....besides LTC staff are not trained to deal with hospital patients......

They already do that now or they did in 2005 with my Dad. They threaten you with a $1000/day payable to the hospital if you don't get your loved one into a LTC home. First available bed must be taken regardless where it is
Hospital is not a hotel. If you can’t be cared for at home then you go somewhere you can be. Or you pay out of pocket for it. I’m sick of 50% of my income going to people who grift off the system. I dislike Doug but they are right on this one.
They go where there is room available to them. Our hospitals are slammed as it is. Unless they need medical attention or adjustments to their meds they shouldn't be in hospital. Keep your family at home for as long as possible.
Provided the LTC home is within a 1-hour drive of the hospital, this seems a good idea. Is that in the legislation? What's so great about waiting for weeks and months in a hospital?
Hospitals aren't waiting rooms for LTC. That's why we have no beds
