Maybe it was the same contractor that does the roads, because they do the same.

seen similar on Ground Force where the 'builder' made mortar with a shovel of sharp sand, a shovel of soft sand and what looked like a tablespoon of cement ?! like many of us over 30 and from our school days we were always told the mix is 4:1:1(4 sand, 1 cement, 1 lime)

Demolish them all and give us back our green belt land.

On big builds, the mortar is usually mixed offsite then delivered. The hodsmen don't get a chance to make a 4 to 1 mix and there's probably no cement on site to rectify the matter.

Toy town houses using cheap materials. My house has been around since 1836.

Typical. Bloody home builders no doubt putting profit before customer satisfaction. Selling dreams? More like nightmares.

Must be a Tory thing.

All about the money again

They don’t build them like they use to!

U can breach NDA in terms of the public disclosure act, in this case it is a disclosure of malpractice & is definitely in the public interest 2 disclose the current practice or negligent failures of an industry/profession/trade.

Probably also down to the lack of descent tradesmen and training!

Don’t know what people expect, there is a huge shortage of properly trained skilled tradesman, what happened to city & guilds, hugely respected years ago! Parents don’t want their cherubs to get there hands dirty, u can’t build all these houses with shite labour!!

Let me guess, cheap materials to make more profit.

We were asked to look at s property 20 yrs ago, due to mortar not holding a hanging basket, the lady of the house had the mortar analysed, wait for it .....18 sand 1 cement, at the time they were 5 bedroom 250k lovely homes. All the other residents were not interested...stupidity

New houses in the UK are rubbish quality, are too small to facilitate a decent quality of life, have no design innovation whatsoever and are all about one thing and one thing only. Massive profits for the members of the UK’s house building monopoly. They’re as bad as the banks.

I thought this was a metaphor for theresa_may ‘s govt at first.

Shock headline but how many affected?

There's an estate in South Wales built in 1995 that had exactly the same problem.

Keep using untrained migrants and that is the result homeowners

what are the inspectors doing?

Maybe due to cheaper Labour from Europe being used in the building industry.

Well cement costs money! And there is no site checks or supervision to cut costs! Sub contractors left to do there own thing.

I tend to be colorful in my language as in, 'This sounds like a job for Molotov Cocktail Man.' What was that show? Leverage.

What an embarrassment, not built to last are they! Mine is over 130 years old and survived 2 World Wars 🤭

There's mortar this than meets the eye

Thats what happens when you build a house for a tenner to sell for 300k.

Well if they pay🥜🥜🥜 you get 🐒🐒🐒s which cut corners ! So are these problems covered under NHBC warranty ?

One part cement four part sand used to be the standard, cheap it and down create problems.

Sure there's mortar the story.

Build em quick, make money, bollocks to the owners. About sums it up..

The developers are only interested in getting houses sold and don't care about quality or location of new homes. Buying up sections of flood plains and building on them for example. Homes then inevitably get flooded and residents start moaning about it.

if you employ E European brickies you'll obviously get East European standards, thats why the Germans preferd British brickies in the 70s that no longer exist due to end of apprentices & abandoning young Brits

Idea: redo the mortar it’s very cheap

Avoid new builds - common knowledge.

Best of British.

Bit like the. Tories

Not surprising. Most new home companies cut corners wherever they can to cut costs. There's no pride in the houses being built anymore.

Terrible!
