Single and small multi-family homes must include solar panels starting in 2020. Recent extreme weather events such as wildfires and drought make the need clear, a state official says.

Any idea of what this would add to the cost to build an average home?

Florida should do the same.

But if building boom is over is this enough? Incentives to convert?

What does this do for “affordable” housing?

Should be a Federal law.

It would really be a breakthrough if California went solar!

Fuck yea California!

Well that’s just a bad idea.

They need to start like 20 years ago when the oil companies knew and hid it!

People in the future will think of the naysayers like we think of the people who thought of requirements for indoor plumbing as crazy.

State by state, company by company, individual by individual. We’re heading towards renewable energy. Solar panels and a Tesla might be a nice saver in the long run.

If they are requiring solar panels then we should be allowed to live off the grid if we choose.

Does the 53% net out the energy used to manufacture, install and ultimately dispose the panels?

That is major. I hope more states follow suit.

Legislating with your heart rather than your brain. When you're forced to buy a product the sellers of said product can raise the price without losing customers, you have to buy it! Less freedom of choice=higher costs. See health insurance costs

This should be a national endeavour

Will they also prohibit public utilities from raising rates when they try to make up the income shortfall?

Finally!!

Was in FL recently and saw very few solar panels on residential or commercial properties. Thought that was odd. Perhaps it was just the location I was at (St. Petersburg)? FWIW: See solar frequently in OR now. I expect to see more with climate change.

California should require 1 and 1/2 inch water pipe with 200' a of fire hose

This just makes me wonder what PGE4Me is gonna do to for retaliation 🤔

Will they be forced to connect them to the power grid making them useless during a disaster when the power company shuts them off? If works try to work on the grid and theyre not ahut off they can be electocuted but its cost prohibitive and sometimes illegal (1/2)

Maybe they should work on homeless shelters?

That outta help with their homeless crisis

This sounds like something WA should look at JayInslee

pretty extreme, but if they did for the auto industry, they should do it for home and business

I support PEOPLE putting solar panels on their roofs, NOT government MANDATES.

GarethMP we should be doing this too.
