The man had been camped on the Galloping Goose trail near Carey Road for several weeks with a tent, a large amount of personal property and two dogs, one of which had been deemed a dangerous animal by the City of Victoria

Saanich police used a bean-bag shotgun Tuesday afternoon to arrest a man who ran onto the highway after refusing to move his tent from the Galloping Goose trail near Carey Road.

“Over the past several weeks, the man had become increasingly confrontational with police about moving his property. Officers had engaged him with social services and housing opportunities, however, he refused both and continued to refuse to leave the private property,” he said. After the man was issued warnings Monday and Tuesday morning, police said, he threatened to kill officers with his dogs if they did not leave. He then ran onto the busy highway, where he continued to threaten police, police said. Officers had to halt traffic temporarily to ensure everyone’s safety and deployed the bean-bag shotgun, said Anastasiades.
