BREAKING: The Ontario government has passed Bill 7, which would transfer senior hospital patients to long-term care homes not of their choosing on a temporary basis.

But Premier Doug Ford says patients who refuse to move will not be charged an uninsured rate of $1,800 per day.

Emergency departments have been closed for hours or days at a time in recent months, largely due to a nursing shortage. Hospitals can already charge these patients a co-pay of $62 per day, which advocates say is roughly what they would be paying in long-term care. Long-Term Care Minister Paul Calandra has said patients should be charged if they refuse to move to long-term care, but hasn't said how much.

This is another catastrophic blow to the elderly and seniors. How in the world do you have the heart to put them in just any nursing home? Nursing homes are already death sentences. When are seniors and the elderly EVER going to be looked at as a priority? SHAME ON the GOVT

It does sound terrible, let’s hear some helpful ideas from the opposition. I’ll wait, and wait and wait….

BREAKING: Evil overlord gets his way, again.

Yea fuck up LTC some more.

Once again the elderly suffer!!!!

Because there is no money? Rich sent billions to offshore tax havens

Great idea trust those criminals 100%, this article is Quebeixco but this also went on in Ontario. Did you all know THAT LTC HOMES WERE TOLD NOT'NOT' TO SEND ANYONE to the hospital if they had CV-19 symptoms. These criminals let them suffocate - DYJ CTV 🖕

I really don’t think it will happen.

Temporary Really When exactly will they get to move to the long term care facility they want One that is closer to family and has a better reputation. Will such transfers ever happen?

Good. Will create much needed space in hospitals for more urgent care needs.

Good, maybe that will free up beds.

Way to go dictator doug!

We lived through this with my Mom who passed last year at 89. She was born and raised here, she worked and contributed to this system! I can say it’s not the healthcare worker’s or patients who are the problem.

fordnation , well you gone and done it this time. Guess you won’t have to worry about your family, cause you would never let this happen to them. You need to step down & give us back our province.

I could be wrong but I think this might be a way to pick and choose for people what LTC facility they will be going to. Will permit favouritism for certain individuals for sure. Matter of time before all individuals are told where they will be going, not just those in hospital.

Senior patients are not what is breaking the system that has served this province well in the past they have become the scapegoat. Doug Ford broke it by his incompetence and greed.

DEFINE ‘TEMPORARY’!!!

Road to communism?

Opinion: The Ford government is betting Ontarians won’t care about relocating seniors without their consentOntario rushed to pass legislation that allows hospitals to transfer patients to long-term care homes without their consent in order to free up hospital beds We do care To be fair, Ontarians didn’t care about thousands of seniors dying filthy and alone, so this is probably a sound bet. You know you always elect a bagel-shaped failson with wet toilet paper for a brain with the best intentions (making taxes illegal, deregulating plutonium) and then it turns out there's *consequences* (contracting an infection on the LTC transfer bus 'cuz ur manacles are 2 tight)
