Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has said he should have renewed the tenancy on his property with the Residential Tenancies Board.The minister said he had thought everything was in order, but checked it after the controversy over the property interests of former Minister of State Robert Troy.Minister Donnelly spoke to the media in Dublin this morning and said that to the best of his knowledge all the facts about the issue have now emerged.
He said this would have been known because his properties were on the Dáil's Register of Members' Interests. "It shouldn't have happened. The responsibility is mine." He has characterised his failure to register his property with the RTB back in 2019 as an"oversight".Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said he had confidence in the minister, a position echoed by Green Party leader Eamon Ryan. Social Democrats co-leader Catherine Murphy said it is"alarming" that Mr Donnelly was"so lax about his obligation to register a tenancy with the RTB for such a sustained period of time".
